Dude

binku-muja asked: I actually meant to ask this earlier but completely forgot. Does Rice Porridge bring in plenty of money like it did in previous games? Is it worth going with in order to save on gemstones and other hard to get resources until you are more financially stable? It was always a go-to source of income for me as it only really used the one ingredient so long as you had the right kitchen upgrades and a steady supply of rice from the shop.

(Ah…I didn’t initially intend this, but this turned into a long post about making money in the game. Lots of reading ahead!)

Interesting… I never used rice porridge as a source of income in previous games, although I heard other people have. Cooking and selling is just something I haven’t been too keep to do… In SoS, I relied on selling gold and silver linen to make most of my money. In ANB, I relied heavily on dairy products and eggs. In most other games, I relied on fruits like pineapples that can be grown in a greenhouse and are worth a lot of money.

In Trio of Towns, the rice porridge recipe has been tweaked. The ingredients now consist of rice and soy sauce. The ingredients can be purchased from Ittetsu’s shop in Tsuyukusa Village, and you can cook and sell porridge for a profit. They’ll be available in his shop from the time the village is unlocked (Summer 5, Year 1.) However, you can’t get the recipe for it until Tsuyukusa Village is at rank D.

(All prices below reflect veteran mode. You might be able to purchase some of these items for a slightly lower price in seedling mode–but prices for things this inexpensive usually don’t vary much!)

180G for the rice, plus…

280G for the soy sauce, equals 460G.

Making rice porridge with .5-star ingredients will make a 1-star dish of porridge worth 540G. That’s a profit of 80G.

As for gems, well… Over time, as you level up West Town’s rank,  you can purchase the following gems from the materials shop: crystal, ruby, jade, topaz (those four become available once the town reaches B rank), amethyst, emerald (B rank + you must have built a few makers/barns/beehives/mushroom logs/power circle items/whatever). So there isn’t much need to stock up on those gems at the start of the game. I sell them.

Crystals, rubies, jade, and topaz are worth 3700G.

image

Emeralds and amethyst are worth 4500G.

But, I don’t rely on gems for long. I’ve found the best source of money to be milk, wool, and eggs. So while I sell gems to keep afloat during the first year, I give my animals white treats on most days, which increases the amount of products they give.

The maximum amount of produce a single animal can give is 20. That adds up quickly, especially once they’re giving plus-quality products.

Milk +: I have more than 10 stacks of 99 at the moment, lol. And that’s just from 2 cows, so, well, it’s still half a season’s worth of milk, but, yikes. My storage is gonna fill up if I don’t sell these soon. One bottle is worth 1612G at the moment, so selling them all should net me about 1.6 million G. (The price of milk increases when one of your cows wins the livestock show. The rainbow-colored crown means I’ve won it 4 times, so this is the maximum amount that regular cow’s milk can be worth.)

Jersey milk, buffalo milk, and the various types of wool are worth even more money. So, taking good care of your animals REALLY pays off in this game.
